Obituary for Allen Weinstein

Allen “Buddy” Weinstein was born on November 27, 1928, to Kassel and Rose Weinstein of Washington, D.C.

After graduating from Roosevelt High School, Allen enlisted in the United States Army in 1946 and served in Italy during World War II.

Allen graduated from the Chicago School of Optometry and began his life long career as everyone’s favorite Optometrist, working for Group Health Association for many years and continuing his private practice in the home until 2001.

In his retirement, Allen enjoyed the Florida beaches and traveling around the world and cruising (Russia, Israel, Mediterranean), reading (he was an avid library patron), watching football (a lifelong Washington Redskins fan but slowly converted to Tampa Bay) and golf (a devoted Tiger Woods follower), and spending time with his family and little dog Lucy.

Allen passed peacefully away on August 4, 2023 at the age of 94. Allen is survived by his daughter Wendi Weinstein (Stevensville, MD and Ocala, FL), daughter Cynthia Ridgeway (Winter Springs, FL), and his former spouse and partner of many years Edna Maye Aleshire (Winter Springs, FL).

Allen was predeceased by his brother Robert Weinstein and sister Beatrice Selsky.

At his request, there will not be a funeral or memorial service because “they’re depressing”. Donations in his memory can be made to The Parkinson Foundation or any animal charity of your choice.

"When my old man grinned, nobody could help but grin too." -- Ernest Hemingway, "My Old Man"
