Obituary for Angel R. Naranjo

Our beloved Angel “Roddy” Naranjo passed away suddenly on November 13th after a valiant battle with end stage kidney disease. Roddy was born on April 14, 1962 in Ambato, Ecuador. He is survived by his uncle, Edgar Marcelo Naranjo (Dad) and his wife, Carmen Naranjo (Mom) who brought him to the United States when he was ten years old and raised him as their own. Roddy became a “brother” to his two younger cousins, Kristie Lofland (Larry) and Michelle Bentkowski (Scott). Roddy is survived by his “nieces” Gabriella and Adrianna Corral, Samantha Burgess, and bonus “nieces” Maddy Eckstein and Peytyn Lofland. Roddy loved all his girls! He always provided sound advice and a fun time. He will also be deeply missed by all his extended family including his Aunt Renee, his many cousins and all his lifelong friends.

Roddy attended St. Jude’s Regional School, St. John’s College High School, and the University of Maryland. He began his 30-year professional career at EDS and then continued his years at Perot Systems and Dell Technologies.

Roddy worked hard and played hard. He truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures: his love for soccer, playing golf, traveling across the pond, spending time with family and friends, watching his favorite sports teams; Washington Redskins, Washington Capitals, UMD Terps, Orlando City SC and Newcastle United F.C. Roddy will be remembered for his distinct laugh and his eternal smile. He was a loyal and sincere friend to all.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a funeral mass and celebration of life will be postponed for a later date so that all can share in remembering Roddy.

Our family wishes to express their heartfelt appreciation to all of those who have extended their condolences during this extremely difficult time. We are humbled, comforted, and grateful for all the expressions of sympathy. We welcome your prayers and ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the American Kidney Fund ,in memory of Roddy, to directly support patient care.

Lastly, our family wants to thank Roddy’s angel on earth, Kristen, for giving a selfless gift of life through kidney donation. Her gift gave us two more years with Roddy, and we are forever grateful. Kristen, you were his hero and his friend.
