Obituary for Billy Martin Mayberry

Billy Martin Mayberry ,91, died Sunday, September 8, 2024 of a blood infection with his loving wife Barbara by his side.


Born on April 25, 1933 in Appomattox, Virginia, Billy was the eldest of the six children of George W. and Nellie E. (Mann) Mayberry.


Billy loved gardening, tinkering in his garage, classic country music, fishing, fixing cars with his friend Roy, and watching the Little League World Series. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, brother, friend, follower of Christ, U.S. Navy veteran, mechanic, truck driver, dock worker and volunteer.


Billy served four years in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Lloyd Thomas, a Gearing-class destroyer. He also worked for Yellow Freight for 23 years. In his retirement, Billy volunteered for fifteen years at Advent Health in Altamonte Springs. He lived in Winter Springs, Florida for 45 years.


Billy was predeceased by his parents- George & Nellie Mayberry, daughter- Therese Mayberry, brothers- Milton Mayberry, Hubert Mayberry and Ralph Mayberry, sister- Sadie Marie Mayberry Hamlett and grandson- Spencer Schultz.


Billy is survived by his faithful and loving wife of 52 years, Barbara, his 3 children- Tracey Schultz (Keith) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, Chris Mayberry (Becky) of Jacksonville, Florida and Kelly Wiggin (Andrew) of Benton, Maine. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren- Hunter Schultz, Lincoln Schultz, Reagan Schultz, Cole Mayberry, Ansley Mayberry, Luke Mayberry, Kallie Mayberry, William Wiggin and one great-grandchild- Sofia Schultz, his brother- Fred Mayberry of Appomattox, Viriginia and his nephew, Kenneth Mayberry of Concord, Virginia.


Billy will be buried at sea by the U.S. Navy.
