Obituary for Blanche Dormady
After 70 years of eternally suspending her age at “18 years”, Blanche Rosaline Fleury Dormady of Sanford, Florida died peacefully on Tuesday, July 19, 2022 from natural causes. Blanche Rosaline (aka “White Rose”) was born in 1934 to her parents Raymond and Irene Hebert Fleury in Ithaca, New York. She is survived by her three sisters: Josephine Beach, Jeanne Townsend, and Anastasia Davenport. After graduating from Ithaca High School in New York, she married her high school sweetheart, John Dormady in 1953. After serving in the Air Force and eventually working as an IBM programmer, John moved his wife and young family to the east coast of Florida in 1966 to join NASA’s quest to land the first man on the moon while working on the Gemini and Apollo missions. Dubbed “Snow White” and “Prince Charming” by her father, Blanche and John went on to have seven children, and to love eight grandchildren and 10 great- grandchildren. Life in Florida as the “Transplanted Yankee” and her shared passion for the space program soon sparked her writing skills. John bought her a new IBM Selectric typewriter, launching nearly 50 years of her professional life including adventures as a reporter, columnist, author, editor and consultant. Blanche created the Fleury Foundation in honor of her father where her generous and charitable nature taught her children and others to see and experience life from another’s perspective from 1977-1986. During 1987 thru 2016, she used her writing skills to transform the lives of thousands of people as an editor and consultant, writing resumes that empowered them as they stepped into their own futures. Also an artisan, there was never an idle moment as she constantly used her hands to express love by designing and creating knit and crocheted afghans and hundreds of uniquely beautiful sweater-shawls she called “Hugs”. Under her tagline, “A Hug from Blanche” she spread warmth and love onto the arms of hundreds of people worldwide. Even with all this, she was foremost a full-time mother and wife who loved deeply and taught her family to trust in God, to believe in themselves, and to cherish the value of family. Her Prince Charming John slew his last dragon on August 8, 2005. Almost a lifetime later, our Snow White, Blanche Rosaline, slipped into the Lord’s arms and fell into heavenly sleep once more. She is survived, loved, and dearly missed by her children, her seven dwarves: Dennis, Cheryl-lin, Diane, William, Margaret, Robert and Patricia, and as her many grandchildren. A private memorial service will be held during the fall of 2022, somewhere in the Enchanted Forest.
