Obituary for Carolyn J. Martin
Carolyn Joan Martin was born to Albert and Eleanor Karau on June 3, 1937, in West Allis, WI. An only beloved child of her doting parents, Carolyn grew up an active child, spending summers at Lake Beulah where her days were lived outdoors: swimming, fishing, and living a carefree child’s life.
She married Gerard Joel Martin on July 28, 1956. They were married for 52 years, and gave birth to three children, Victoria, Cheryl and Dennis. Carolyn was a devoted mother and spent her days actively caring for her children, with her generous, loving, and kindhearted spirit. She volunteered at church and was active as a leader in both Cub Scouts and Brownies. Carolyn had a strong faith and raised all her children in the Lutheran church. She also had a strong love for animals, and it was often that you would find a stray dog or cat being nursed back to health or taken care of in her home. She also loved going to neighborhood parties, having friends over for dinner and/or playing cards on the weekends. Her laugh was distinctive and full of robust energy. She loved to have a good time.
When she was older, she grew increasingly interested in art and became an accomplished artist, winning a few awards for her beautiful paintings of nature. She also volunteered with her church, Forest Oaks Lutheran Church, in both the food pantry and in nursing homes and hospitals, bringing her joyful spirit and strong faith to those who were suffering or were in need. Carolyn had a huge heart with a non-judgmental spirit and accepted people from all walks of life.
Carolyn is survived by her three children and their spouses. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was a beacon of light in a darkening world and will be missed by all who knew her, especially those who were blessed enough to call her family.
