Dalila Smith, 71, of Longwood, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 28, 2024. She is survived by her sister and brother-in-law, Alice and Hanspeter Hosp, and their family. She is also survived by her husband Ray’s extended family.
Dalila was born on April 8, 1953, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. As a teen, Dalila moved with her parents and sister to Germany, where she met the love of her life, Ray. Ray and Dalila were married in 1976 and returned to the U.S. in 1977. The couple settled in Longwood, Florida, and spent 47 happy years together there.
Dalila was the kind of person who never met a stranger and found a friend wherever she went. She could strike up a conversation with someone at the grocery store as easily as she could share stories and laughter with her coworkers of many years. Dalila remained proud of her Brazilian heritage to the end, and she especially enjoyed any opportunity to converse in her native Portuguese. As much as she enjoyed talking to other people, Dalila was happiest when in the company of her dogs; her fur babies could not have been more loved if they were her own children.
Dalila brought smiles to the faces of those around her up until the very last; she will be remembered with love by the many people whose lives she touched. Her family will be celebrating her life at a private memorial service.
