Obituary for David Michael Johnson

David Michael Johnson of Sanford Florida passed away suddenly January 18th 2025, having recently celebrated his 80th birthday. He was born in New Haven, Connecticut to Thomas Johnson and Ruth "Honey" Farren Johnson. The fourth of five children, he was a very happy, fun, musical child that kept those qualities throughout his life.

Music was always very important to him: listening, playing by ear, learning to read music and teaching himself to play standing bass, bass guitar and guitar. He was a very talented singer as well. He was in bands all his adult life, after serving in the US Army for 3 years as an entertainer. He and his brother had a group for many years, called "Sam and Dave, the Johnson Brothers" - they entertained mostly in New Haven County Connecticut, and had a very popular "Stump the Band" segment that had never been stumped! He went on to be a part of other groups, and has been entertaining in Florida up until recently.

He had varied jobs throughout his time in Connecticut like delivering caskets, welding for Electric Boat in Groton, as a realtor for Century 21, Power washing houses... but he was consistently singing and playing every weekend.

He enjoyed reading, video gaming, board games, card games, playing tennis, and of course there was always music playing. He enjoyed being in warm sunny climates and it was only logical that when life offered the opportunity, he and his wife, Gail, moved to Florida in 2003. They have been very happy in Florida, healthy and tanned.

He has quite a sense of humor and loved to laugh and make others laugh. There are many stories but these will not be shared here. Only know that to be with him meant it was going to be a good time.

David is survived by his wife, Gail; daughter Christine; son David Jr.; daughter Cheryl; grandsons Sam, Ben, Brady, Joshua, Max and Henrik; his loving step-family, stepdaughters Amy and Sara and their families, as well as his brother and 2 sisters in Connecticut.

His playing will be missed. His voice will be missed. His laugh will be missed. His lima-beans-and-sausage and perfect mashed potatoes will be missed. He was special, one of a kind, and his body needed to rest. He is entertaining the angels and all who he loved that went before him now.

We will love him always.
