Obituary for Elaine Margaret Kincade

Elaine Margaret Kincade passed peacefully and surrounded by her family on January 27, 2025. Known for her love of family, deep friendships, incredible generosity, and lavish hospitality, Elaine was a “mother”, “sister”, “aunt”, or “grandmother” to almost everyone who knew her. She leaves her devoted husband of 57 years, William Kincade. Their marriage embodied what long love and deep commitment truly mean, serving as an incredible inspiration to many.

Born Feb 9, 1946 to David and Claire Stanton, she grew up in Oxford, CT. She became a Licensed Practical Nurse at Addison Gilbert Nursing School in Gloucester, MA in 1966. After nursing school, she met Bill and they married in 1968. They lived in Gloucester for 30 years, and raised two daughters, Kristen and Kara. They were active members of St. Ann’s/St. Joseph’s parish and developed a large and life-long circle of friends. She loved the beauty of Gloucester, specifically the shoreline and all the picturesque drives on Cape Ann.

From 1977-1980, they temporarily relocated to the Marshall Islands. Their life on Kwajalein created another network of great friends and lifetime memories, with the opportunity for travel to the Hawaiian Islands multiple times. As an avid gardener, she fell in love with the beauty of the garden islands. She loved these years, participating in the Kwajalein Catholic Women’s Club helping build community and connection with the Marshallese women and children.

Upon returning to Gloucester, Elaine continued her gifted nursing career. Having previously worked in hospital maternity, and medical-surgical roles, she changed course and specialized in private elder care. She provided long-term and end of life care for several family and friends, worked for the Putnam Family of Putnam Publishing, at The Oakwood Home with a European Countess among her patients, and The Swampscott Wing at Abbott House where she was hired on the original team for the design of their private care facility. She was a gift to all her patients, caring for them with the greatest compassion, incredible expertise, and genuine kindness.

In 1994, Bill’s work transferred them to Orlando, FL. Taking the opportunity to retire from nursing, she volunteered at the Florida Hospital Gift Shop and was active with St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, working with Bill for many years to run food booths and raffles at their annual Winterfest. She also worked many years as the Afterschool Receptionist at Good Shephard Catholic School, where, true to form, she developed long-lasting friendships among her colleagues and made an impact on students by showing them kindness and thoughtful guidance.

To know Elaine was also to know of her love for cooking, and entertaining; endlessly hosting friends and family, delivering meals for celebrations and in times of need. She was always known for helping others, her love of the color purple, Christmas decorations, and always her family. She showered her daughters, nieces, nephew, and grandson with selfless love, care, and attention. That same love and affection carried over to her new family of grandchildren and great grandchildren, as well as her beloved dog, Scooter.

She is survived by her husband, William, and daughters Kristen Coats (Bob), and Kara Sterling (George); her beloved grandson, Will; her bonus grandchildren Alex Coats (Shannon), and Katie Burke (Brandon); and the newest family members, great grandchildren Wesley and Allie Burke. She is also survived by her devoted sister, Jeanne Branson and lifelong friends, Sharon Romano and Beryl Peterson, as well as many other cherished friends throughout the years. Friendship was her gift and she valued close friends as extended family. She leaves a nephew, nieces, great nephews, great nieces, and many cousins who were all incredibly close to her heart, never letting a birthday pass without celebration or a special occasion go unacknowledged. She is predeceased by her parents, David and Claire (nee Laborde) Stanton, infant siblings Mary Gail and David Stanton, in-laws William and Edwina (nee Hyams) Kincade, and several aunts and uncles.

In lieu of the temporary presence of flowers, Elaine would have preferred the lasting impact of donations to help others. As she was a cancer survivor, please consider The National Ovarian Cancer Coalition (ovarian.org) or the charity of your choice.
