Obituary for Elba I. DeCaro
Elba I De Caro (nee Velez) passed away on August 15, 2021, in Lake Mary, FL at the age of 87. She was the daughter of Pedro and Carmen Velez.
Elba was born from humble beginnings in Red Hook, Brooklyn, NY, February 27, 1934. She married Peter J De Caro in 1956 in Brooklyn, NY where they started their family but eventually moved with their three children to Commack, Long Island, NY. She and Peter provided a beautiful suburban childhood for their kids and Elba was known to be the neighborhood’s best cook. She hosted holidays and a 4th of July party for many years that was the event of the summer. She was an active school volunteer. When her kids got older, she went to work for CNA Insurance.
After the passing of her beloved husband Peter, she moved to The Villages, FL where she enjoyed a very social and active lifestyle. Most days she would ride her golfcart to spend the day by the pool. She continued to enjoy cooking and had a gift for turning out large meals for family and friends. Everyone enjoyed going home with leftovers.
In 2015 she moved to Oakmonte Village in Lake Mary, FL and enjoyed reading the community entertainment particularly the dancing. Among the residents she was everyone’s favorite dance partner. Anyone who knew her would agree she had a colorful “way with words”.
A Memorial Service is scheduled for Saturday, August 21, at 2:00pm at Banfield Funeral Home, in Winter Springs, FL. In lieu of flowers please send donations to The Alzheimer’s Association.
