Emma Rosa Rios of Orlando, Florida died on Friday, May 17th, after a lengthy illness. Although her health was not good for the last several years, she continued attending Sabbath services as often as possible as well as God’s Feast days.
Emma was born on August 28th, 1946, in Managua Nicaragua. She was brought up by her stepmother, Carmela Gutierrez-Cabrera, and she was well-loved by her stepsister Miriam.
Emma met her future husband Augusto when they were living in the New York City area through a match-making service in a local church newspaper. They corresponded through letters to one another until they met one Saturday morning at the New York City Port Authority Terminal. They rode the subway together with Emma’s three girlfriends. Augusto proposed two years later, and as they say, the rest is history.
Emma was taught early on in life to be a good homemaker and housewife. She was a good cook, and her youngest son remembers her love was best expressed through her cooking. When someone asked her what was the secret ingredient that made her food taste so good, she would always say, “I made it in love.”
Emma’s oldest son remembers her as the prayer warrior that always prayed for him to be protected and to stay out of trouble. Emma was a special gift to all of us.
Emma is survived by her husband Augusto, sons Juan and Jose, daughter-in-law Nickole, two grandsons Juan and Justin, and three granddaughters Destiny, Daytynya, and Christina, and a step-sister Miriam and husband Rodolfo.
