Obituary for Ernest A. Izzo
Ernest (“Ernie”) Anthony Izzo, 77, devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather, caring brother and fun-loving uncle passed away on May 18. He was born on October 31, 1944 in Castel San Giorgio, Salerno, Italy. He earned a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Manhattan College in 1967, which turned into a successful 38-year career at Westinghouse/Siemens as an international sales executive. There, he sold power generation all over the world – and always took joy in sharing detailed stories of his adventures.
Married for more than 50 years to the love of his life, Ernie was a devoted and faithful husband – and ultimately, caregiver to his wife, Joanne (née Schlenk), as she fought lung cancer for nearly four years before passing in 2020. He was a loving, dutiful and generous father to his daughters – the kind of dad who knew how to fix anything, and might even pop up at your house unannounced to do so.
Ernie was a life-long Dodgers fan, loved music, and in his retirement, he enjoyed trips to the casino, playing golf, spending time with his grandchildren and spoiling his two miniature schnauzers, Daisy and Maggie. An avid collector and appreciator of antiques, one of his most recent passions was meticulously working on his model train.
He is preceded in death and has reunited in heaven with his wife Joanne, father Tommaso, mother Armanda, and sisters Concetta Strocchia and Luisa Ricotta.
Ernie is survived by his daughters, Donna Izzo, Amanda Reed (Robert) and Jennifer Glester (Sean); grandchildren, Sarah and Sam Reed, and Joey Glester; and brother John Izzo, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins both in the United States and Italy.
Funeral mass will be held at St. Stephen Catholic Community on Friday, May 27 at 10 a.m. and will be followed by an inurnment at Queen of Angel’s Cemetery at San Pedro Center – 2400 Dike Road, Winter Park, FL 32792. There will be a reception at the Izzo family home after. All are welcome.
