Obituary for Evelyn L. Averbeck

Evelyn L. (Clausen) Averbeck began her heavenly journey while surrounded by family at her home in Winter Haven, Florida at the age of 96. She was born in Stevens Point, Wisconsin to Hazel (nee Rowe) and William Clausen. Evelyn (aka Ummie) was a fun-loving adventurer who valued education, travel, friends, and family. As she grew up, her family frequently moved around the Midwest to keep pace with her dad’s promotions on the railroad. Evelyn enjoyed meeting and making new friends, an attribute she kept her entire life. She married her life-long partner, Ernst B. Averbeck, on April 17,1948, and together they settled in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin where they brought up their six children. As time went by, family camping trips grew into a cottage near Crivitz, Wisconsin and then gave way to a winter retreat in Winter Haven, Florida where family and friends were always welcomed.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Ernst, infant daughter Sandra, grandson in-law Jason Noyes, sister Charlotte (Robert) Burroughs, stepbrothers Raymond Clausen, William Clausen and Jack Clausen, as well as brothers in-law and sisters in-law. Evelyn is survived by her six children: Shirley Depies (Thomas), Charles (Marilyn Klumb), David (Kathy Radtke), John (Susan Rahmer), Steven (Julie Schneider), and Lori Gay (Joseph). She is further survived by her two sisters Gertrude Schiesl and Joyce Jones; her sister in-law Joyce Bishop, her grandchildren Leslie, Paul, Kelly Noyes (the late Jason) Kevin Depies, Robin (Ivy), Joshua (Lora), Jeff Depies (Kristine) and Alexis Toby (Kevan); and five great-grandchildren Karina, Wyatt, Madison, Cooper, and Colton.

A funeral service with Rev. Ho Lee officiating will be held May 9, 2023, at Covenant United Methodist Church, with a celebration of life immediately following . Details regarding time and place will be posted on the Kurki Funeral Home Chapel website at www.kurkifuneralchapel.com. An online guestbook can be found at www.kurkifuneralchapel.com .
