Obituary for Gary J. Shackelford
"Shack" went to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 15, 2007. Gary was born September 22, 1938. He was a graduate of Rootstown High School, Rootstown, Ohio. After serving in the u.S. Air Force, Gary was employed by Wickes Lumber and Building Supplies Center where he was assistant manager in the New Milford Center, later being appointed manager to the Copley Center, both in Ohio. He moved to Florida in 1972, with Mobile Home Finance Company and later formed MAC of Fla. Inc. in Altamonte Springs with two close friends. He returned to Wickes Lumber in 1974 and moved to Grapevine, Texas to manage that center for two years, returning to Florida in 1976. Gary opened and managed Deer Run Country Club, Casselberry, FL. He was golf director and general manager from 1976 thru 1987. After leaving the Golf Course, Gary returned to the lumber business forming his own company GJS Management Inc., retiring in 2006. His mother, Lucy Tuggle Shackelford, and his son, Dean Shackelford, predeceased Gary. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Charlene, of Longwood; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve & Roxanne, Duane & Maureen; grandsons, James, Jacob, John, Jesse, and Matthew all of Casselberry, FL; father, Albert Shackelford of Munroe Falls. OH; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jack & Marti of Holmes Beach, FL, Bruce & Sandi of Copley, OH and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
