Obituary for Gertrude W. Bostian
Gertrude Bostian, loving mother and grandmother, passed away on August 28, 2020, at the age of 99.
Gertrude was born in Immenstadt in the Bavarian Alps on March 25, 1921. She grew up on the family farm overlooking the Alps of Germany and Austria. In her twenties she traveled throughout Europe. She met and married Fred Bostian while they both worked at Sonthofen. She became a military spouse and together their family lived in over nine states with tours in Germany and the beautiful city of Berchtesgaden. Fred’s military career of 20 years gave the family a life of travel and numerous moves. While Fred served overseas for two wars, Gertrude moved and maintained the new household while raising their children with love and courage until Fred returned.
Gertrude was a loving, devoted wife and mother who encourage her children to pursue an education. She was an amateur photographer who enjoyed taking pictures of family and her travels. For many years she was a beautician. As a devout Catholic she has been a member of Nativity Catholic Church since moving to Longwood in 1978.
Everyone who met Gertrude was affected by her sweet nature and good humor. She always had a smile and a joyful spirit to share with others. She enjoyed many years celebrating parties with her friends while enjoying good food, wine, and chocolate!
She will be greatly missed by her remaining family: Rita (Charles) Hite, Harold Bostian, Jarmila (Udo) Killmaier; talented scientist granddaughters: Jennifer Hite, Michelle (Tony) Gierach, Melissa Bostian; three great grandchildren.
At a later date the family will have a Celebration of Life. Gertrude will be buried at the Florida National Cemetery at Bushnell.
