Obituary for Jacky "Jack" Eugene Methvin

Jacky “Jack” Eugene Methvin, 89, graduated to heaven on Sunday March 16, 2025 to celebrate his 70th anniversary with his soulmate who arrived there 22 years ago.

Born on September 11, 1935 in Hastings, FL to Lucius and Georgia Methvin. Jack’s childhood home where he grew up is Palatka, FL. The place where he started working for his parents at an early age which developed a robust and hard work ethic that carried throughout his life.

One of those responsibilities was taking care of the family chickens. This helped him significantly in the poultry industry which was a long and successful career that brought immense enrichment to his life.

While managing production for Cal-Maine, Wallace then known as Bronson Farms, he managed over 2+ million birds, mostly in Florida.

Reaching peaks of the industrial limitations his savvy was renown as he was invited multiple times to speak at the University of Florida Agricultural Department’s poultry section of the semester. He retired in 1999 to spend time by with his sweetheart and the love of his life.

Jack was an active member of the Community United Methodist Church in Casselberry since 1970 as a head usher for years. He would open the church, set up the Dunkin’ Donuts and coffee every Sunday then lock up the facility after the services. Being a part of the treasury committee, he’d meet with all the team to count the money and make the deposits. He’s made many close friends over the years and loved them like family. Jack and Jean bowled on the church’s bowling team and had many MYF parties at their home. They were involved with the youth all ages and loved the kids as their own.

Jack loved all sports. Everyone knows who his favorite team was, Florida Gators. Whether it was football, baseball or basketball he was always watching them play on tv. For many years he played and coached softball with his son-in-laws, nephew and several other family members. Wonderful memories they still talk about even in the hospital room.

Jack also loved cooking out on the grill, fishing, golfing and shooting pool. He was extremely competitive, especially while playing cribbage or Rook with his family.

He met Mary “Jean” Haynes in high school. Their first date was at Angel’s Diner in Palatka. He knew there was something special about her that he didn’t want to lose. She worked at the Cape Canaveral office. Jack would drive over to see her 2-3 times a week then decided to ask her to marry him so they could be together everyday. They were married on March 16, 1955.

In September 1956 they had their first child, a boy, Michael, whom we called Micky. Then in May 1959 they were blessed again this time with a girl, Janice. Another baby girl, Theresa “Terri”came in April 1961. To complete their family in November 1964 another baby girl was born, Rebecca “Becky”.

Jack was a loving husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather and great-grandfather. His love for Jesus was above all and he was a true apostle.

Jack is preceded in death by his parents (L.G “Bud” and Georgia Methvin), two brothers; Ben and Bill Methvin, his sister; Margaret Biddle , his wife; Jean Methvin, his son, Michael and a daughter, Theresa.
