Obituary for Josephine Lauretta

Josephine, Jo, (Mattucci) Lauretta, age 94, of Casselberry, FL, died on October 12, 2023 in her home.

Jo, a resident of Casselberry since 1972, was born on March 15, 1929 in Akron, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband Biagio (Bill); parents Carl and Isabella; and 12 brothers and sisters. She is survived by her children Daniel, Marie, William, Anthony, Nancy, Joseph, Carol, and John; 24 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She found great joy in being a grandmother.

Jo, a wife and mother, was endowed with special energy to raise eight children on a shoe-string budget. Keeping house, cooking delicious whole food meals, sewing clothes for the girls, and playing games with her children were just a few of the ways she cared for her family. For a few years, she worked at Union Carbide and still provided for her family’s daily needs. She was also a military wife, which was no small task; especially with having to move every 4 to 5 years with a carload of children.

Jo also remained active in other ways. She shared her family’s love of sports and played softball and tennis. She loved getting in her pool to relax. As she settled into her neighborhood, she and other ladies formed a crafting group. She also took great care with the variety of flowers and plants that filled her yard.

She was a faithful church-goer and raised her children to believe. She was a volunteer in some of the services provided by her church and also participated in community volunteer opportunities – meals on wheels and hospice.

Mom, you always listened to us, provided good advice, and always had a kind word to help us through our problems, no matter what. You will be missed by all. Rest peacefully now with Dad. We love you and you will always be with us.

Memorial mass was held at St. Augustine Catholic Church in Casselberry, where she and Bill were active parishioners.

According to Jo’s wishes, cremation has taken place and her ashes are to be buried at sea. Memorial donations may be made to American Heart Association or Hospice of the Comforter.
