Obituary for Joyce Ann Bastian
Joyce Ann Bastian passed away peacefully in her home on October 11,2020. Her daughter and hospice members were by her side. She had us turn all the lights out in her room, because “she saw the great light”, along with deceased relatives.
She is finally at peace, after suffering a long illness. She was 82 years of age, and resided in Longwood, Fl, with her daughter Lisa.
Joyce earned a Master’s Degree of Music, where she was born in Princeton, WVA. She taught in the school systems over 35 years; 25 years in Seminole County, Florida. She taught music at Sanford Middle School in Sanford, Eastbrook Elementary School in Winter Springs, and finally Hopper Elementary for the developmentally challenged young children in Sanford. While teaching at Eastbrook in 1981, her choir went to State finals in Tallahassee, won and recorded an album. She won many other awards, such as “Teacher of the Year”; acknowledged by Disney.
She taught piano and organ lessons’, played the organ and sang in the choir and ensembles of Community United Methodist Church in Casselberry, FL. She played many instruments; her favorite were the piano and organ. She was very busy between church and school teaching, but enjoyed golf and craft work as well. She decorated our house for every season of the year.
While not a member of the military, she will be interred with her deceased husband, Andrew P. Bastian, who served in the Navy. They will both be in the Bushnell National Cemetery.
Joyce is survived by her daughter, Lisa McClung Dunn; Brother-in-Law Major Norman E. Keith; two nieces – Deborah Lynn Keith with 3 children and 4 grandchildren; and Lori Ann Keith-Domingo with 3 children and 3 grandchildren; one nephew – Norman Scott Keith and his wife Karen.
Her sister, Linda Sue Keith, and both parents – Herbert Graydon Miller and Francis Pauline Miller are deceased. Linda is interred at Bushnell National Cemetery; our Grandparents are buried in their home state of Bluefield, WVA.
Services for Joyce Bastian will be held Saturday, October 24th at 2:00pm at the Banfield Funeral Home in Winter Springs, FL. The funeral home can be contacted by phone at 407-327-1500 for further questions.
Interrment will occur later at Bushnell National Cemetery, Bushnell, FL.
