Obituary for Joyce Carolyn Hughes
Joyce Carolyn Hughes, 84, of Orlando, Florida, passed away on February 10, 2026.
Born November 11, 1941, born in Miami FL Joyce lived a life marked by devotion to family, steady faith, and quiet strength. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend whose warmth and caring spirit will be deeply missed.
Joyce was preceded in death by her spouse, James C. Hughes, and her parents, Ralph Torbett and Regina Torbett of Miami. She is survived by her children, James Cleveland Hughes II and Jeannine Candace Baird; her daughter-in-law, Theresa Hughes; and her grandchildren Jessica Marie Hughes, James Cleveland Hughes III, Melissa Ann Hughes, and Hannah Kathryn Bard. Joyce was a proud grandmother of four grandchildren and cherished each of them deeply and individually.
For the last 12 years, Joyce lived with Alzheimer’s disease. While the illness brought difficult changes, it never defined who she was. Her spirit stayed strong, her kindness remained warm, and she never allowed the disease to take away the love in her heart or the way she made others feel cared for.
A service to honor Joyce’s life will be held on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida.
