Obituary for Kendall Soder Moore
KENDALL S. MOORE

Kendall Soder Moore, 89, died Thursday April 9, 2020 in Longwood, Florida.

He was born in Utica, New York on August 1, 1930, the son of the late Charles R. and Marguerite (Soder) Moore.

He lost his hearing as an infant while living in New York City due to contracting spinal meningitis. His family moved to Jacksonville, FL in the early 1930s, and he attended the St. Augustine School for the Deaf in St. Augustine, where he graduated in 1948. He was trained in typesetting, and eventually was hired to work at the Government Printing Office in Washington, D.C. until his retirement in 1993. He worked on printing of the Congressional Record and other government documents. While there he and his family resided in Maryland just outside our nation’s capital.

He married the former Gladys Gay Bishop on December 23, 1952 in Jacksonville FL, and they shared over 56 years together until her death on January 25, 2009.

A few of his joys were to be on his boat in the Chesapeake Bay fishing and enjoying time with the family while camping across the eastern portion of the USA. After retirement he and Gladys piloted their 28 foot Cape Dory boat down the Intracoastal Waterway from Maryland to Florida, where they eventually built a home in Ormond Beach, FL. They enjoyed the pleasure of many friends as Kendall committed his time and talents as secretary and chairperson for the Florida Association of the Deaf. Kendall and Gladys also enjoyed all that coastal living offered while living together.

Surviving are three children and their spouses, Randy and Lisa Moore of Arbovale, WV, David and Laurie Moore of Winter Springs, FL, and Shirley and Tim Simpson of Chambersburg, PA. Also, he is survived by 11 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter Sharon Norris, and son-in-law Eula Norris, his three sisters, Willrene “Billie” Powers, Margaret “Peggy” Holloway, and Carolyn Coristin.

Banfield Funeral Home and Crematory in Winter Springs, FL is in charge of the cremation, and private graveside services will be held at Norland Cemetery in Chambersburg, PA at a future date.

The Lord Is My Shepherd
Psalms 23:1-6 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; For You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; You anoint my head with oil; My cup runs over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me All the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD Forever.
