Obituary for Kenneth Leo Rogier
Ken passed away Sunday, May 28th, at Winter Park Memorial Hospital after a very short illness. A native of Tell City, Indiana, he was born September 14, 1946, and attended Indiana State where he earned a Master's Degree in Music Education. He taught at the elementary, middle and high school levels at South Putman Community School for 7 years. In 1975 he moved to the Orlando area where his passion for teaching young people continued at Union Park Middle School for 31 years. His final concert presented by over two hundred students was a week before his untimely passing. He was looking forward to a wonderful retirement, traveling with his wife Sharon of 17 years as well as volunteering his time to help beginning band students. Ken was recognized as a great role model and his influence on thousands of students has endeared him to many. Ken was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Rogier and a great niece, Kay Durcholz. He is survived by his wife, Sharon Rogier of Winter Springs, mother, Helen Rogier, brothers, Larry (Carol), Gene (Joanie) and sisters, Barbara (Dennis), Mary (Kerry), nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews from Indiana. The wake will be held on Tuesday, May 30th from 5 to 7 p.m. in the chapel at St. Stephen Catholic Church . The mass will be celebrated Wednesday, May 3st, 10:00 a.m. at St. Stephen Catholic Church. A memorial service will be held Wednesday evening, May 31st, 7:00 p.m. at University High School, 11501 Eastwood Dr. Orlando, FL 32817. In lieu of flowers Ken's family has requested memorial gifts be made to Union Park Middle School's Band Department, 1844 Westfall Drive, Orlando, Florida 32817 Attn: Kris Viles.
