Obituary for Kenneth Skates
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Ken/Oto-san Skates. He died at the age of 91 on Sunday June 11th, 2023. He is survived by his wife of 65 years Yoshie Skates, his 2 daughters Tina (Skates) Avilla, and Jackie Skates. Ken had 3 grandchildren, Chuck Mason, Veronica Hill and Ikaika Avilla. He was blessed with 8 great grandchildren, Hezekiah Melendez Avilla, Alani Mason, Arianna Guerrero, Kainoa Hunt Avilla, Lilyanna Guerro, Charlyze Mason, Elias Avilla and Kaiyomi Mason.
Ken is also survived by his brother Lawrence (Larry)
Skates.
Ken served in the United States Air Force for 24 years. Although he retired, the value of the military life never left him. His famous saying was "suck it up".
After retirement from the service he worked for the
US Post Office and other jobs that served the community.
Some of his favorite things to do were fishing, going on the boat, reading and he loved sitting in the sun.
Family meant everything to Ken and he would always be there when ever anyone needed help. He was loved by all.
