Lorraine Camarano passed away in Winter Springs, Florida on May 17th, 2025. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt, friend and woman of strong faith and verbose conversation. She was born Lorraine Mary Royster on November 25th,1949 in Washington, DC. She was welcomed into the world by her parents, James and Marian Royster, and grandmother, Bertha. She was the older sister to Lawrence (Larry).
Lorraine grew up in the Washington, DC area and graduated from the Academy of the Holy Names in 1967, Silver Spring, MD. She earned a bachelor’s degree in history at the University of Maryland. Carrying forward her love of history, she pursued a career with the United States White House, working in correspondence and eventually becoming supervisor of the children’s section. From 1971 to 1989, she served under 5 presidents from Nixon to H.W. Bush and was responsible for presidential correspondence. During that time, she met her husband, Michael Camarano, while attending her brother’s duck-pin bowling club. Mike was enthralled with her bowling technique, and it was love at first strike. They were wed at her family church in Silver Spring, Maryland, May 5th, 1979. They were married for 46 years.
They moved into a home not far from Michael’s parents where they lived for the first 10 years of their marriage. There her life changed, as they started their family of five and welcomed Theresa, Philip, and Anthony into the world. Only 1 month after Anthony was born, Lorraine and Michael picked up their lives and moved to sunny Orlando, Florida. Lorraine enjoyed road tripping with her husband across the United States and finding a good antique store along the way.
During her years in Florida, Lorraine was caretaker to her newborn child and later established a new career working for the American Automobile Association as a dispatcher in road-side assistance. She also became a certified “Disney girl” and would regularly visit Disney for birthdays and anniversaries.
She had a notorious infatuation with Christmas, playing music as early as September and developing an expansive collection of ornaments and village pieces throughout her life. Lorraine loved to talk on the phone with anyone from her best friend to the telemarketers, bake all kinds of delicious things, watch Hallmark movies, play the piano, get involved with her church community and sing. She found a passion in her church choir program at St. Stephen’s Catholic Church, where she was an alto singer (and sometimes soprano!). Many a church-goer would compliment her singing.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her parents, James and Marian. She is survived by her husband, Michael, brother, Lawrence, daughter, Theresa, sons, Philip and Anthony, and her three grandchildren, Michael, Colette, and Leonardo.
