Marion R Natishyn, age 101, formerly of Mount Pocono, PA peacefully passed away Thursday October 26, 2023 at home in Orlando, Florida.
Born on August 1, 1922, in Shickshinny, PA, she was the eldest child of the late Alex and
Emma Purzes. She was the sister of the late Emma Lukesh of Wyoming, PA and Wiliam Purzes of Wilkes-Barre, PA.
Marion was the beloved wife of Michael Natishyn, Mt. Pocono, who passed away Nov. 4,1991. She was predeceased by her son, Thomas A Natishyn and son-in-law Neil Brady.
She is survived by her two sons, Michael Natishyn (wife Carolyn) of Arlington, TX and David Natishyn (wife Kely) of Pocono Pines, PA. She is survived by her daughters, Nancy Brady, Orlando FL, Mary Jane Natishyn (husband Alan Moyer), Winter Springs FL and Susan Natishyn, of Georgia. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Lou Ann Natishyn of Easton.
Marion has 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was a loving, kind and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
After graduating from high school in Mocanaqua, PA Marion attended college at Syracuse University and worked at the Sunday Independent newspaper in Wilkes-Bare. She met her future husband while he was serving active duty in the Army during WWII. They married and initially lived in Harrisburg and then moved to Wilkes-Barre where they began their family. After child number 5 they moved to Mt. Pocono Pennsylvania in 1960 where Marion had her 6th child. Marion was also a skilled seamstress, talented baker, cook and homemaker.
In the Poconos, she became actively engaged in the community, where she was selected as the Democratic Committee-Woman for Monroe County. She was very involved with their catholic church, St. Mary of the Mount. She sang choir, coordinated Altar Servers, volunteered for Altar & Rosary, and acted as the moderator for the Catholic Daughters. She was an active member of the Pocono Arts Council and acted and sang with the Cherry Lane Playhouse.
Marion became well known as a talented artist and excelled in a wide scope of art mediums. She opened the Art department at Pocono Central Catholic School in Cresco, PA in 1967 and taught hundreds of students Art and Art Appreciation through the last graduating class of 1987. She organized Art Club trips annually to Manhattan where her students visited Art museums and first run Broadway plays.
Marion was also Stage, Scenery and Costume Director for the High School Plays at PCCS in addition to being Cheerleader, Ski Club & Equestrian Club moderator.
Marion also taught summer art classes at Pocono Farms clubhouse. Her tireless energy and enthusiasm for life were inspirational for many that knew her.
Marion spent many of her retirement years in Pembroke Pines, Florida where she cultivated many loving friendships and enjoyed performing in a song and repertoire group at Century Village and the greater community.
Marion shared her light and Faith with everyone she encountered. She was eternally optimistic about life and all of God's gifts. Marion will remain in our hearts eternally. Her Celebration of Life Service is on December 9 at Banfield Funeral Home, 420 West State
