Obituary for Marvin L. "Mickey" Usry, Jr.
Marvin Louis Usry Jr. was born in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida on January 3, 1959 to Marvin Louis Usry Sr. and Shirley Usry. He is survived by his wife, Linda,(Casselberry) son Marvin III, (Winter Park) daughters Christina Rogers (Oviedo) and Ashley Usry (San Francisco), grandchildren Taryn and Greysen Rogers; sisters, Vicki Stroud (Deltona) and Janet Lynn Theron (North Dakota); son-in law Eric Rogers (Oviedo); sister-in-law Teena McCane (Casselberry) and Brenda Greene (South Carolina), brother-in-laws Michael Stroud (Deltona), Michael McCane (Casselberry), Robert Shaw (Winter Park) and Izaak Theron (North Dakota) and numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, aunts and uncles.

Marvin lived most of his younger life in Winter Park where he started working in the telecommunications business. For 40 years, he dedicated his life to his job. The people he met in those 40 years became as close as family in his heart. He was smart, compassionate, a quick thinker, great memory of events; dates, places and times and he never, ever met a stranger. When Marvin took vacations, he would come home with new memories and stories to tell of people he had met along the way. He loved his family and friends dearly. His children and his grandchildren were the love of his life. He would beam when talking of them and spent every moment he could with them. Marvin taught his children respect, loyalty, honesty, and to be hard working, independent and strong. He would make the grandchildren laugh with the telling of fairy tales that were in his words not what was written in the book as he had done for his own children. They would laugh and say “Papaw that’s not true” and he would continue to read the book, inserting his own story line with Taryn and Greysen laughing at every word. Everyone’s children and grandchildren loved him. He was a true kid at heart.
Marvin loved to tell jokes and play pranks and had a great sense of humor. His laugh and smile were unforgettable. He was a perfectionist with everything he did. If planting flowers, they had to be perfectly spaced and the yard perfectly groomed. He loved marigolds. Marvin loved motorcycle riding and most of his vacations were done by bike. He covered a lot of territory on that bike including Montreal, Canada. He loved all kinds of music and loved to sing along, of course changing the words throughout the song. One of his favorite songs was Henry the VIII. He would sing it with a British accent over and over again and wanted everyone to sing along. People would tell him “That song was stuck in my head for days” and he would just laugh.
When he went anywhere without Linda, he couldn’t wait to get back home. They were soulmates for 35 years and his love for her was overflowing. Marvin was the love of her life. He was a great man and will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
