Mary Jean Seiwell
Mary Jean Seiwell, age 99, passed away peacefully on Oct. 2, 2022. She
was born on Sept. 16,1923 in Besancon, France to parents Pierre Guernier
and Marie Coste. She led an extraordinary life. At the start of WWII, her
family fled to Algiers, N. Africa where she volunteered with Red Cross and
USO. She returned to France after liberation and worked in Paris as a
telephone operator for the U S Army Signal Corps. She migrated to
America in 1946 and married Robert. C. Seiwell and lived in suburban
Philadelphia where they raised two children, Robert. Jr and Peggy Jean.
Mary Jean became a model along with her work as a translator and
insurance underwriter. She then worked in the restaurant business prior to
opening a dressmaking/dry cleaning shop in King of Prussia. She traveled
all over the world and enjoyed her passion for skiing, which introduced her
to John B. Garvin, whom she later married. Upon retirement, they moved to
Winter Springs to be near her daughter and grandchildren. She remained
active throughout her life and was loved by many. She is predeceased by
her parents, her husband, her sister Gisele Guernier, brother Antoine
Guerneir, and dear son Robert Seiwell Jr. She is survived by her brother
Claude Guernier, Montreal, her daughter Peggy Baker (George), her
granddaughter Mara Adamson (Brad), her grandson George Baker III
(Brittany), and great-grandchildren Sarah and Carter Adamson. Mary Jean
lived the American dream and was especially proud to have become an
American citizen. She cherished her family, including her nieces and
nephews in Canada and her cousins in France. We will all miss her.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Stephen Catholic Church,
575 Tuskawilla Rd, Winter Springs, 32708, on Thursday, October 13 th at
10:00am.
