Mary Sue Sutherland of Debary, Florida passed away on September 25th, 2022. She is survived by her duaghters Mary Lynn Sutherland and Susan Ann Sutherland Fernandez, and her two grand-children Ben Elliot and Janet Frost.
Born and raised in Norfolk VA on November 18 1942, where she attended Maury High school and went on to college at Old Dominion.
Mary was known for her quick-witted humor and kind spirit. She enjoyed writing poetry about current events and advocated for local Florida wildlife like the Florida black bear. She also grew to love fishing and crabbing in Florida waters.
Mary loved to give eloquent toasts at holiday parties and pursued other creative mediums like knitting, puzzles, and painting mandalas.
When asked about her favorite job, Mary loved managing a diamond and gem company where she was responsible for handling beautiful gems from around the world. Prior to working in the gemstone industry, she worked in banking as a teller and eventually became a loan officer.
Mary valued knowledge and know-how and decided to learn what to do during a natural disaster. She completed a course to become a community response member.
Because of Mary’s strong conviction for wildlife protection and her concern for the Florida bear, we ask that in lieu of flowers, that a contribution to the Florida Wildlife Federation be made. Thank you for all of your love, care and concern during this time.
