Michael David Mitchell, 70, peacefully passed away on July 30, 2022, at St Alban's Veteran Living Center in Queens, New York. He was born to Ralph Mitchell and Blanche Mitchell in New York, the United States, on September 23, 1951. He fought a good fight and is at peace now, having joined his parents who have gone before him.
He was engaged to Roselyn Miles for 11 years, and they lived together in Harlem, located in New York City. Together they raised two children, Matthew Mitchell and Javal Miles.
Michael leaves behind his son Matthew, step-son Javal, three brothers: Ralph, Peter, and Thomas. Two sisters-in-law: Janice and Sophia; nieces and nephews: nieces and nephews: Ralph's children: Kenneth and Stefanie; Kenneth's children: Dylan, Noah and Grace; Peter’s daughter Alicia, and grandson Amara; Thomas’ children: Ben, Alex, Meghan, and Maya, and many cousins and friends.
Michael worked at Harlem Hospital until he retired in 1996 and was passionate about affecting the most positive change in people. He loved playing the drums to his two favorite songs: “It's Getting Hot in Here” by Nelly, and “Bustin’ Loose” by Chuck Brown & The Soul Searchers.
Private 2nd Class Mitchell served his country for four years as a Communications Specialist in the Army. In 1970, Michael was honored with the Vietnam Service Medal with one bronze service star, the Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, 2 Overseas service bars, Marksman Qualification badge with a rifle.
He will be missed. May he Rest in Peace.
