Obituary for Michael Wayne Rawlins
Michael Wayne Rawlins, 61, of Lake Mary, FL passed away unexpectedly on August 12, 2020.
He was born May 9, 1959 in Richmond, Kentucky to Lester and Jean Rawlins. His early boyhood was spent in West Virginia before his family settled in Longwood, FL in the early 70s.
He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Cindy Rawlins; his son, Nathaniel D. Rawlins, and wife Nathalia of Wesley Chapel, FL; his daughter, Olivia R. Louthan, and husband Austin of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by his mother, Jean M. Rawlins, of Chuluota, FL; his brother, Greg S. Rawlins, and wife Hajnal of Chuluota, FL; and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Lester W. Rawlins.
He was an electrical engineer for 31 years and was most recently employed as a Circuit Design Engineer Senior Staff with the Santa Barbara Focalplane Group of the Lockheed Martin Corporation. Prior to Lockheed Martin, he was employed with Parkervision, Inc. for 20 years as an RFIC-Analog Design Engineer and Vice President of Engineering. One of his many accomplishments included authoring a technical book, Low Power Wireless Receiver for IoT Applications with Multi-band Calibration Algorithm, which covered various topics of integrated circuit design. He had over 30 years of experience in full custom IC design, RF, Analog, Mixed Signal, Logic and Interface, and was a co-inventor and contributor to 115 patents over the course of his career.
Anyone who knew him knew he loved the Lord Jesus Christ and served Him faithfully. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Longwood since 1978 and was involved in many different ministries throughout his years there. His greatest passion was teaching God’s Word, which he did continually by serving as a Sunday School teacher for 25 years.
He was a devoted family man–spending time with them was his top priority. He loved to play the guitar, and he even wrote some of his own music. He loved to fish and spend time on the water with his family. One of his favorite spots was Captiva Island, FL, where he and his wife spent their honeymoon. There were many family vacations over the years to Captiva, as well. He always looked forward to the start of football season so he could cheer for his Alma Mater, the UCF Knights!
Friends and family are invited to a celebration of life at 11:00am on Thursday, August 20, 2020 at First Baptist Church Longwood. There will be a graveside service to follow at Oaklawn Park Cemetery in Lake Mary.
