Patrick J. Weyand, age 72, passed away in November 2024 in Orlando, FL after a long battle with cancer.
Son of John Weyand and Jessie Harris, Patrick (Pat) was raised in Dearborn, MI. He started working at the family business, Weyand Fisheries in Wyandotte, MI, while he was in high school. Pat eventually became a manager and then co-owner of Weyand Fisheries, a position he proudly held until his retirement. At that time, he decided to follow in his parents’ footsteps once again and excitedly retired to Florida.
Pat had a love for water. While in high school, he was training for the Olympic Swimming Trials until an injury took him out of the pool for a few months. In college, he developed a love for boating as a member of the sailing club. He then owned several powerboats and was a long-term member of the Detroit Yacht Club. Pat’s favorite long-weekend destinations were Cedar Point and Niagara Falls.
Different people will remember Pat for different things. Family friends will remember his amazing BBQ ribs. Neighbors will remember what a great handyman he was and how he was always willing to lend a hand. Employees will remember how he never asked them to do something that he wasn’t willing to do. Those who knew him when they were children will remember how he would listen to them talk about their day at school and then sneak them a Hershey’s bar as a snack. Family will never forget how he always did everything he could to look after them and make sure they were safe and happy.
He was preceded to heaven by his mother, father, and brother John (Jack) Weyand. He is survived by his wife Janet Weyand, daughter Tracy Weyand-Chang (and husband Daniel), brother Michael Weyand (and wife Donna), and sister-in-law Barbara Weyand.
