Lord hear our prayer, we ask for strength to see us through the storm of grief, grant us peace knowing the time we had with Phil will live forever in our hearts. Survived by his wife Marjorie, his children Drew, Sara (Nick), Joey (Kristie), Jon (Ashley) and Tony. his Mother Louise, Grandchildren Emma, Nathan, Zoey, Jordan and Christopher. Siblings Marilyn (Rodd) and Jerry, nieces Anna, Kate, Maddie and Claire, nephew Logan, his beloved dog Jackie Chan, his Winter Springs Cycling group, dog park friends and his colleagues from Siemens. He was preceded in death by his Father Remigius and his brother Kenny, Phil was born in Gary, Indiana, his father was a carpenter in the steel mill industry, a golden gloves boxer who demonstrated to Phil the grit of hard work. Phil was awarded a scholarship from US Steel, earning a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Purdue. Phil was quiet, unassuming, never boasted regardless of his accomplishments, though if you asked him about his grandchildren he would talk for hours, he was truly a simple man in every way. Besides his family, cycling was his passion, he lived and breathed it, riding solo on the open road, and group rides with his buddies every Saturday fulfilled his life. Phil could do about anything, often he would research and study something before attempting it, on the other hand he would just go all in. I remember soon after I met him he rebuilt a classic car, fined tuned the turbocharger and said baby I'm taking it to the dragstrip. There he was smoking his tires in front of the "tree" waiting for it to turn green, he had practiced outside of the neighborhood like a teenager leaving tire marks on the pavement. Racing around pylons with a local group in the parking lot of a police academy he would sometimes have his car on 2 wheels as if it were a Nascar race, he would then tell me and others how we could go faster but we could never match his skill. His dancing skills were unique, often than not people would leave the dance floor due to him waving his extra long arms like one of those inflatable tube men. During intermission at a Michael Jackson tribute he was one of the first to volunteer to do the dance off, me and his friends were screaming as he attempted the moon walk just like that inflatable tube man. Phil was the dad who would scoop up his children and their friends and take them anywhere they wanted to go, regardless of how busy he always found time. Always finding time for everyone, even strangers, now it is his time to rest in peace, with God by his side, knowing we loved him. May I, his family and friends find strength, not tears, not sorrow but hope that we can take his memories and put them toward the greater good in helping and loving others as Phil did with us. Philippians 4:13—“I can do all this through him who gives me strength.”
