Philip Charles Gribbons, 73, passed away at home on February 26, 2026.
At his core, Phil was a builder. Whatever he set out to build — whether a two-story deck, a clubhouse, an innovative business system, or a strong foundation for his family — was made to last. He approached life with steadiness and quiet confidence, balancing high standards with an easygoing manner, warmth, and humor.
Phil grew up in Louisville, Kentucky, and joined the United States Navy after high school. During his service in the Vietnam era, he met John Hemphill, who led him to the Lord and introduced him to his oldest daughter, Diana. That introduction would shape the rest of Phil’s life. Phil and Diana would have celebrated 52 years of marriage this June — a testament to their enduring love and commitment.
After completing his military service, Phil earned his degree from the University of Louisville through the GI Bill. He later moved to Florida to pursue a career in real estate, where his forward-thinking mindset quickly set him apart. He was among the first in the industry to implement computer-based systems, anticipating innovations that would later become standard practice. His vision extended into sales and marketing, where his leadership and creativity distinguished him. In 2000, while working with Engle Homes, he was honored as National Marketing Director of the Year.
Phil led by example. Through creative sales contests, incentive programs, and performance-based rewards, he inspired energy, excellence, and camaraderie within the teams he guided. While his professional accomplishments were significant, the relationships he built along the way mattered even more. He challenged others to reach their potential while remaining approachable, encouraging, and generous with his time.
Beyond his professional life, Phil was also a musician. After his time in the Navy, he played bass guitar in the Louisville-based band Crushed Velvet. The group recorded an album, appeared in the local press, and performed at charitable events — reflecting Phil’s lifelong appreciation for creativity, collaboration, and community.
Philip’s life was defined not only by what he built, but by how he built it — with faith, integrity, and care. He leaves behind enduring systems, meaningful friendships, and a family grounded in his example. He will be remembered with deep respect, gratitude, and love.
He is survived by his wife, Diana Jean Gribbons; his sister, Patricia Willoughby; his brother, Paul Gribbons; his children, Kelly Elizabeth Thomas, Philip Scott Gribbons, and Andrew Thomas Gribbons; and six grandchildren.
Services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2026 at East Coast Believers Church located at 3053 W State Road 426 in Oviedo.
