Obituary for Phillip L. Mings
Phillip Lee Mings, 79, passed away on May 9, 2021. He was born August 12, 1941 in Shelbyville, Indiana to Earl William and Mary Jane Mings.

He graduated from Shelbyville High School with the Class of 1959. During high school he greatly enjoyed participating in football and track.

After high school he attended Indiana University, then enlisted with the U.S. Navy. He received an Honorable Discharge in 1963. While standing on a street corner in New York he heard about President Kennedy's assassination. He was a proud veteran, serving on the U.S.S. Barry and U.S.S. Ingraham during his time in the Navy and participating in the Cuban Missile Crisis.

Phil enjoyed taking leadership roles in his various hobbies, most recently serving as the Vice President of Florida Freewheelers. He loved the ability to give back to the community through his role in the club. In addition to bicycling, Phil had also previously been heavily involved in his van club decades earlier, at one point serving as President. He appreciated the fond memories with friends created through this experience. Other hobbies and interests included stock car and go-kart racing, reading, and watching crime and military focused TV shows and movies. He enjoyed watching many sports, particularly football. Professionally, he held various sales and management positions in a variety of industries which allowed him to interact and entertain people - something he greatly enjoyed.

Phil was preceded in death by his parents & an infant sister, Virginia Anne.

He is survived by his wife Sally, son Collin Philip (wife Rebecca) of Clearwater FL, grandchildren Makenna & Camden, son Scott Mings (wife Karen), grandson Christopher and great-granddaughter Jade, brother William Gregory (Greg, wife Marsha) Mings, cousins Virginia (Gingi) Crosby of Shelbyville & Patricia (Trish, husband Bill) Cromwell of Dublin OH, Debra (Mings) Barnett, Patti (Springhorn) VonKeitz. Nephews Brian Mings & Jeff Mings. Other family members include Tara Cromwell, Carrie Fansler Gray, Andrew Fansler. He is also survived by other close family members, friends, and his fellow veterans and bicyclists.

Services will be held at Banfield Funeral Home in Winter Springs @ 2PM on May 15. Final resting will be at All Faiths Memorial Park.
