Obituary for Rob Hutchins
Rob Hutchins, a beloved figure known for his booming voice and infectious laugh, passed away on January 9, 2024 after a courageous battle with cancer.
Rob was born on November 27, 1956 in Nelsonville, Ohio to Bob and Janet Hutchins. His childhood was marked by adventures across the country with his family before settling in Granville, Ohio. There, he distinguished himself in both track and basketball before graduating from high school. He graduated from Denison University and Ohio University, and earned his law degree from Florida State University. He remained a devoted fan of both the Bobcats and the Seminoles.
Rob began his professional journey with Ernst & Young before venturing into entrepreneurship. He founded his own tax, financial and law practice in Central Florida where he dedicated over 30 years to serving his clients with distinction, earning their trust, respect and friendship.
Rob had a myriad of interests that showcased his adventurous spirit and intellectual curiosity. He found joy in fishing, traveling (St. George Island, Maine and the western US among his favorites), watching college football and engaging in spirited debates with family and friends. An epicure at heart, Rob had a penchant for New England seafood. He was a connoisseur of fine whiskey and cigars. He enjoyed roasting his own coffee beans, cultivating a saguaro cactus he grew from a seed, mastering the art of smoking the perfect ribs and pulled pork. He was an avid reader with a particular interest in fiscal and monetary policy, and his love for music spanned across genres from disco and classic rock to the great symphonies.
Rob is survived by his father, Bob E. Hutchins, his brother Rance Hutchins (Elaine), and his former wife Laura Alsup. He also leaves behind beloved aunts, cousins, nephews, and a multitude of lifelong friends and colleagues who cherished him and admired his zest for life.
A celebration of Rob’s life will take place at 1:00 PM on Saturday March 23, 2024, at Banfield Funeral Home, 420 West State Road 434, Winter Springs, FL 32708.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to one of Rob’s favorite charities including Boys Town Central Florida, IDignity Orlando, The American Cancer Society, or a charity of your choosing. Rob's legacy of kindness, generosity, and boundless enthusiasm for life will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
