Obituary for Robert Reynaldo Taylor
Robert R. Taylor, the 4th of 11 children, was born on July 23, 1951 in Chicago, IL. He spent his childhood and teenage years growing up in Chicago. He attended Dusable High School up through the 11th grade when he had to drop out to work and help support his family.
After working for 4 years, he joined the U.S. Army in June 1972 and attended recruit training at Fort Polk, LA. He then attended Advanced Infantry School at Fort Lewis, WA where he honed his Army survival skills for his first duty assignment in Germany. He was assigned as a power generator operator in the 9th Infantry Division, 9th Signal Battalion. During the next 2 years, he finished his high school studies and received his diploma from the State of Florida. He transferred to 3/5 Air Defense Artillery at Babenhausen West Germany and served there for one year before he was honorably discharged from the Army.
After a year of civilian life back in Chicago, HM! Taylor decided that military life was good, but that he wanted to try the Navy way. He joined the Navy in July 1976. After OSVET training at Great Lakes, IL, he attended Hospital Corps School across the base. He was the class adjutant for 50 students.
He reported to Naval Regional Medical Center Jacksonville FL for his first tour of Navy duty. After spending 6 months on the Orthopedics ward, he realized a genuine concern for patients’ welfare, both mental and physical, and requested to be transferred to the Psychiatric department as OJT psychiatry technician. After spending a year working on the psychiatry ward, he requested and received training at Fort Sam Houston in Basic Psychiatry technician school, and further training at advanced psychiatry technician school at Oakknoll Naval Hospital, CA.
In his subsequent assignment to Naval Hospital Camp Pendleton, CA, he developed his psychiatric testing and evaluation skills and military leadership by serving as the LPO of 6 psychiatry technicians in a busy in/outpatient service. He transferred to Naval Hospital Orlando in 1980 where he spent 3 years as the LPO, Psychiatry Department.
In 1983, he attended Field Medical Services School and then reported to 1st Force Service Support Group, FMF at 29 Palms. After several TAD trips to Camp Kinser Okinawa, JA for operational Commitments.
Transferring to Naval Hospital Subic Bay in 1986 HM1 Taylor has worked in Manpower Management, Supply, and Preventive Medicine Departments before taking the helm as the Fleet Medical Liaison Officer in July 1989. In December 1990, he put on the additional hat by taking the position of Leading Petty Officer at Naval Station Subic Bay Branch Clinic where he supervised 18 junior enlisted corpsmen in a superb fashion.
Robert final duty station was Fort Sam Houston, TX, where he was honored as Recruiter of the Year and retired from his incredible Military career.
Robert lived several of his final years traveling around the world with his devoted wife Rose. They stetted in FL near his loving daughter, Andrea (Matt)Lorie Deneen and two youngest grandchildren-Mallorie and Rowan Deneen,
He was preceded in death by his parents Bobby and Josephine Taylor, 2 sisters- Pauline Stokes and Debra Porter, a brother, Stephen Taylor and a daughter Genonia Taylor. Siblings remaining to honor his life are Alicia Floyd, Leroy Taylor, Lonnetta Taylor, Miltonia Patton, Michele Scott, David Taylor and Marilyn Taylor. Children- Bobby Taylor, Rodney Taylor, Robert Maldonado, Lawanda Lewis. Also a host of additional grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
