Obituary for Robert Stanley Rumberger
Robert (Bob) Rumberger of Winter Springs, Florida, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, April 26, 2022, at the age of 72. His wife of 40 years Judith (Judy) was at his bedside. He was a loving husband, father, son, and brother.
Bob was born in Buffalo, New York, on January 5, 1950, to Helen and Bill Rumberger. He was very active as a child playing baseball, basketball and skiing. He began working as a caddy for his grandfather at Buck Hill Inn and Golf Club in the Poconos when he was 13 and continued working there every summer. As a result, he became an excellent golfer, winning the caddy championship at Buck Hill. He graduated from Amherst Central High School in 1968 and from Penn State University in 1972 with a degree in Economics.
He worked for the Department of Defense, Naval Air Systems Command, in Northern Virginia. He was a contract specialist buying airplanes for the Navy. In 1997 he transferred to NAVAIR Orlando as Assistant Director and then Director of Contracts for the Training Systems Division. He retired January 3, 2008.
Bob enjoyed traveling, and he and Judy took trips to many national parks, Europe, British Isles, Australia, New Zealand, and several trips to Alaska, Canada, and the Caribbean. He especially loved going to Penn State football games and visiting his parents in State College, PA. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Arnold Palmer Invitational Golf Tournament at Bay Hill, which he did for ten years.
Bob is survived by his wife Judy; son John of Atlanta; sister Kathy Rumberger of Norfolk, VA; David Rumberger (Gloria) of East Stroudsburg, PA; brother-in-law Mark Campbell of Central Square, NY; and 13 nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Jean Campbell.
