Obituary for Rosemarie C. Doane
On Friday, October 23, 2020, Rosemarie (Rose) Doane, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt died at the age of 92 in Winter Springs, Florida.
Rose was born on May 15, 1928 in Jacksonville, Florida to Robert and Florence Cameron. She married William (Bill) H. Doane on June 28, 1947 in Miami, Florida. Together they raised two daughters, four grandchildren & seven great-grandchildren. She dedicated her life to serving her loved ones and supporting our veterans.
Rose was a lifelong lover of music and could play several instruments including Organ, French horn, Accordion, Trumpet and Percussion. She received a full music scholarship to University of Miami in 1944 but due to WWII, had to forgo college and go straight into the workforce. In the workforce she worked as a switchboard operator at Southern Bell where during air raid blackouts she would have to ride a bicycle, delivering messages to different military posts in the area. After the war, she was re-united with her childhood friend, Bill and they fell in love. They married in 1947 and later moved to Clewiston, Florida, where they had a Fish Camp on Lake Okeechobee. Shortly after starting their family, they sold the camp and moved to Sebring where she later worked as a bookkeeper and private music teacher and happily raised their two daughters Alana and Tammy. Rose, alongside husband Bill, also volunteered with the Civil Air Patrol for over 25 years doing search and rescue missions of downed aircraft. Later Rose and Bill decided to move to Bossier City, Louisiana to help raise their two granddaughters, Kelly, and Elaine (Shawney) due to both parents being in active Air Force. Rose worked at the Commissary at Barksdale Air Force Base where she was well respected and trusted by colleagues and superiors alike. Rose and Bill helped create a firm foundation for the family and spent most of their time fishing, camping, and traveling the country with the kids and grandkids. Rose later retired with Bill to Sebring, Florida in 1997 where she won her battle with Ovarian Cancer, and further enjoyed a relaxed Florida lifestyle of outdoor living, her beloved cats, Mugs and Jinx, family, and friends. Rose never missed the chance to celebrate a birthday or holiday, especially Christmas and the 4th of July. She also loved a good parade or card game! Rose and Bill later moved to Oviedo in 2010 to be near family as their health began to decline. After Bill’s passing in 2014 Rose lived with Tammy and cherished son-in-law, Brian for a few years before moving to a nursing home. She was a proud wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt who devoted herself whole-heartedly to her family.
She is preceded by her husband (89yrs), daughters Marie Alana Michaelis (71yrs), Roberta Elaine (2yrs), Patricia Alice (2wks.), as well as grandson Andrew Jay Michaelis (40yrs), brother Robert (Bud) Cameron (85yrs) and sister Roberta (Pudd) Cameron (39yrs). She is survived by daughter Tammy Fisher and husband Brian, grand children William (Billy) Michaelis and wife Mary, Kelly MacLeod and husband Michael, & Elaine (Shawney) Plaisted and Ronnie Plaisted, along with Great Grandchildren; Ryan, Dominique, Colin, Owen, Addison, Gavin and Abigail, as well as nieces Wanda Harrelson and husband Chuck and Tony Leavitt and husband Harry, and Lauren Utting and countless other great nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
*The family asks that if you are contemplating sending flowers instead consider making a donation to ‘Inside Out Jail Ministries’ on Rose’s behalf, as she was known in the ministry to many as ‘Grandma’. Please go to: https://www.isojm.org/.
