Sandra Kay Ramirez, 76 of Lake Mary, FL, passed away the morning of August 21st, 2024. A viewing will be held from 5-8pm at Banfield Funeral Home on Tuesday August 27th in Winter Springs, FL. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:30am Wednesday August 28th at San Pedro Center Chapel in Winter Springs, FL. Private family burial services will follow at Cape Canaveral National Cemetery, FL. Father George Nursey of St. Stephen Catholic Church will officiate.
Sandra was born in Wichita, KS September 29th, 1947 to Joe and Mildred Grissom at St. Francis Hospital. She attended Martinson Grade School and Allison Junior High School. She went to Wichita West High School and graduated in 1965. She also attended college at Friends University and was a member of the Iota Theta Mu Society.
She married Michael Downing in 1967 in Wichita, KS and had three children together, Daniel, Theresa and Andrew. She was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church in Wichita, KS.
She moved to Lake Mary, FL and married Jorge Ramirez in 1987. She was a member of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Winter Springs, FL.
She always loved music and sang in church choirs throughout her life. She helped others and worked as a hospital volunteer candy striper, dental assistant, brownie den leader, girl scout leader, volunteer substitute teacher, Cessna Aircraft wiring technician, Mary Kay sales associate and customer service representative in the banking industry. She also volunteered her time to the Altamonte Springs Rotary Club and received recognition by Rotary International as a Paul Harris Fellow.
She is survived by her husband, Jorge Ramirez; son, Daniel and wife Amy Downing; daughter, Theresa Downing; son, Andrew and wife Cindy Downing, step-daughter, Maria Ramirez; step-son, Jonathan Ramirez; sister JoAnn Baker; grandchildren, Colter Lewis, Erin Downing, Jacob Downing, Ian Downing, Lauren Downing and Daniel Downing II; and great grandchildren Leah Lewis and Morgan Lewis.
