Obituary for Sui-Chun Ying
Andrew Sui-Chun Ying, 93, passed away Wednesday, July 17, 2019 at the AdventHealth Hospital in Altamonte Springs, Florida, following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 62 years, Alice Ying; his son, Steven Ying and his wife, Jeanne Marie; his daughter, Joyce Ying, and her partner Steven Johnston, his son, Theodore and his wife Barbara, five grandchildren, Laura Ying, Allison Ying, Amanda Calhoun, Dexter Ying, Spencer Ying; and many close friends.
Born in 1926 and raised in Shanghai, China. He first arrived in the United States in 1948 and became a graduate student at Carnegie Institute of Technology (now known as Carnegie-Mellon University) in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he obtained his PHD in Mechanical Engineering.
He ultimately became a professor at Carnegie Tech when he met his wife, Alice. They married in 1957. Shortly after in 1958 he began a long illustrious career with the Westinghouse Electric Company. In 1983, he was transferred to Orlando, Florida.
While at Westinghouse, he became their most decorated engineer where he was awarded more than 34 patents, more than any other engineer at the time of his retirement in 1992.
Aside from his profession, his favorite pleasures in life were travelling, classic movies, Alice’s cooking, beer and most of all spending time with his family.
A Memorial service will be held July 27, 2019 starting with a visitation from 10:00 AM – 12:00 PM and Memorial service at 12:00 PM… with a luncheon following.
