Obituary for Sylvester Griffin
Sylvester Griffin, 97 years of age, passed on this Thanksgiving Thursday, November 22, 2018 at Gracious Age Assisted Living.
Sylvester was born January 30, 1921 in Lakeland, Florida to the late James and Lovey Griffin. He was the eldest of nine children, 8 have preceded him in death. In 1943 Sylvester joined the United States Army.
Sylvester married the late Evelyn Taylor in 1948 and one child were born from this union. The family moved to Rochester, New York in 1949 where he went to work as a foreman for the trade union for the building of Xerox. He later went to work at Kodak as a supervisor where he retired. Sylvester continued to work until he was 92 years of age.
He loved gardening, fishing and God. He also loved going to the dog track and waking up early to enjoy the morning breeze. Sylvester enjoyed spending time with all his family and friends laughing, making jokes and he always wore a smile on his face. He was a very loving and caring person, a devoted husband, father and friend. Always thinking of others first.
Sylvester leaves to cherish his loving memories, his children Paul Griffin and Connie Peart; 3 Grandchildren Patrick Moon, Jaivis Griffin and Asante Adams, and a host of great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The funeral will be at Concord Street Church of Christ, 636 concord street Orlando, Florida 32803 Monday at December 3rd, at 11am viewing at 10am. The burial will be on Wednesday at Mims National Cemetery at 2pm.
