Obituary for Sylvia Clay Gilstrap
Sylvia Clay Gilstrap died in the home of her eldest son (Glenn Hall) on October 5th, 2020 in Sanford, Florida due to complications following a fall. She was 88.
Sylvia was born on July 25, 1932 in Carlisle Kentucky her parents, Marion Henry Lee Sr. “Shorty” and Goldie Lee.
She married Johnny Eugene Gilstrap. The Gilstrap’s moved around between Kentucky and Florida. until Sylvia’s youngest brother helped them open a family business “Super Shoe Repair Shop” in Sanford Fl. Where they both worked until they retired in 1999. after retirement Sylvia loved to garden and spend time with her grandchildren, family and pet dog (Baby)
Sylvia is survived by her two sons Glenn Hall and Johnny Gilstrap Jr. and daughters-in-laws Donna K Hall and Della Gilstrap, Sylvia has 3 grandsons, Kyle Michael and Kevin Wade Hall, as well as Jonathan Gilstrap all of which reside in Sanford Florida. Sylvia is also survived two brothers, Mason Lee residing in Carlisle Kentucky and Marion Henry Lee Jr. (June) residing in Eustis Florida, and by one sister Florine Ovington who resides in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky. Sylvia was a very kind and loving woman who raised two loving and caring men. She was also a loving grandmother to 11 other grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren in what was her extended family. She is preceded in death by her first husband Woodson Hall and her second husband Johnny Gilstrap her brothers James Lee, Russell Lee, as well as her sisters Marie, Virginia and Maudie.
Sylvia was a hard-working woman that held two jobs for most of her adult life to help provide for her family. She was always busy doing something in her garden or in her flower beds. She loved to be creative doing needle point, latch hook and pretty punch items for her friends and family.
Sylvia loved cooking big meals for all, and she would always open her house and her heart to friends in need. She had her own way with animals, she was very strong willed but was loved by everyone that knew her.
Sylvia will be greatly missed.
Sylvia will be cremated, and a private ceremony will be held on October 10, 2020. A memorial will take place directly after her service at 2:30 p.m. at Banfield Funeral home.
