Teresa Anna Buchanan, known as Terri, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, November 19, 2025, at the age of 91. She will be remembered as a loving wife, devoted mother, caring friend, dedicated teacher, and cherished member of her community.
Terri is survived by her two sons, Michael and Craig; her sister, Mildred; her brother, Joespeh; grandsons, Mitchell and Collin; and her great-grandson, Levi. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of more than 60 years, Col. James (Jim) Buchanan, and her daughter, Evelyn.
Born and raised in Smithtown, Long Island, New York, Terri met Jim, an Air Force pilot, and together they built a family marked by resilience and love. As a military wife, Terri carried much of the responsibility for holding the family together while navigating frequent moves across the country for Jim's assignments. She faced particular challenges—and showed great strength—during the difficult year when Jim was deployed to Vietnam in 1969.
When her children became independent, Terri embraced her long-deferred dream of higher education, earning her degree in education from the University of Central Florida. This led her to a rewarding career as a teacher at Webster Vocational School in Winter Park, Florida, where she inspired and mentored students in court reporting. Terri also excelled in her own right as a sought-after court reporter, admired for her skill and professionalism.
Terri and Jim shared a zest for travel, exploring North America and Europe together, often accompanied by her siblings and their spouses. Every journey was an adventure, and Terri treasured the time spent with family and friends.
There are far too many stories to capture a life as full and joyful as Terri's. To those who knew her, she will always be remembered for her warmth, optimism and unwavering ability to enrich the lives of everyone she met.
