Virginia (Ginny) Kehoe Akin passed away peacefully on Thursday December 29th 2023.
Virginia was energetic, vibrant, and lived life with a sense of adventure and great humor.
Virginia and her husband Peter (1935 - 1988) raised five children in the rural town of Fair Haven
Vermont. She was an active participant in the community and could often be found at school
events supporting her children and the children of the community. Three years after the passing
of Peter, Virginia, with her disdain for winter weather, headed to the sun and fun of Florida.
Settling in Altamonte Springs Florida, Ginny began her much deserved "second life" and could
be found most weekends on the beach with the waves and a good book, lt was here that
Virginia met her gentleman, Roger Bristol, with whom she would spend the remainder of her life.
Roger introduced Virginia to his "Elks family'' and thus a purpose of giving, kindness and
community blossomed for her. The work that she and Roger accomplished together for the Elks
was important and necessary for those with Iess who needed a boost. lt is a beautiful legacy
and one to be honored.
Virginia was an active and outspoken advocate for women, particularly at a time when it was
unpopular for women to speak out. Virginia attended many Equal Rights for Women rallies in
the 1970s and was an active member of a Rape Crisis team. Working full time, raising five
children, fostering numerous foster children, and carrying the burdens of life did not buckle her
tiny frame. She lived life with grace, humor, compassion and a fierce dignity that will surely be
missed but remembered by those whose lives she impacted.
Virginia is survived by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as her children
Peter, Justin, Julie, lan and John, who held her hand and stroked her face as a vigilant sentinel
in her final days. She is also survived by her loving Roger who dedicated his life to her and
treated her with such kindness and love all the way to her final breath.
ln lieu of flowers or a donation, we ask that in honor of Virginia you provide an act of kindness to
someone in need.
