Obituary for William Alvah Spafford, Jr.
William Alvah Spafford Jr. passed away on December 2, 2018 in Orlando, Florida. He was born on March 28, 1934 in Brooklyn, New York. He was the third child of William and Katherine Spafford.
He is survived by his wife, Helen Sheahan Spafford, daughters, Debbie Gordon, Jeanne Cisco, Kathy Schoen, sister, Priscilla Cooper and 8 grandchildren, TJ Gordon, Sean Gordon, Sarah Gordon, Billy Cisco, Christine Cisco, Brendan Schoen, Nicole Schoen and Connor Schoen.
William proudly served in the Air Force for 8 years.
He had a degree in Computer Network Engineering and has worked as a technical writer for many companies such as Lockheed Aircraft, Sperry Gyroscope, ITT Defense Communications, General Electric and Northrup Grumman.
William’s love for history was apparent through his endless research on historical military figures as well as his own family genealogy. He wrote a historical book about Port Arthur during the Japanese- Soviet War. William was a talented piano player who could play by ear and he loved to sing. He was known as a very outgoing, jovial man and anyone who met him was drawn to his friendly personality. His smile could light up a room! He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
William was a Catholic with a special devotion to the Blessed Mother. He had a genuine love for God, his family and country. We are inspired by your music and your life. We love you Oppey!
A funeral mass will be celebrated Friday December 7th at 10 AM at St. Stephen Catholic Community with Father John J. Bluett as Celebrant. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to your favorite charity in memory of William Spafford, Jr.
