Obituary for William L. "Buddy" Lamb

William Lawrence “Buddy” Lamb was born January 4th, 1926, in Louisville Georgia to his parents Eli Allen Lamb & Estelle Moats Lamb. Buddy always shared that he had a wonderful childhood and loving family & many friends growing up.

At the age of 17 Buddy voluntarily joined the Navy where he fought active duty from 1943 to1946 on the USS San Francisco (CA-38) as a Seaman First Class V-6 gunner. His ship was one of the most decorated ships of World War II, earning 17 battle stars and the Presidential Unit Citation. Buddy completed his service with the USNR with Honorable Discharge, receiving multiple medals of honor for his bravery and successful return home. In December of 1946 Buddy reenlisted and joined the United States Armed Forces as a parachute rigger. Buddy was awarded a World War II Victory Medal along with Army of Occupation medal Japan. Shortly after his return to Louisville he joined the Georgia National Guard as a Sergeant Company I of the 122nd infantry.

Buddy Met and Married his wife Hazel Lomie McGahee on July 16th, 1948. Buddy and Hazel started their family right away and in 1949 Their first son was born William Lawrence “Larry” Lamb. In 1957 they had the joy of bringing their second child, another son, into the world, Terry Steve Lamb. In 1959 Buddy and Hazel moved from Louisville to Orlando Florida. Buddy had a successful career managing and caring for many different companies over the years; from owning the College Park appliance company to managing GRT Construction. After raising their own boys, they then welcomed their first grandchildren in 1973 Steve Lamb & 1979 Lisa Lamb- Ackerman. In 1991 They welcomed their final grandchild into the world Terry Cathryn Lamb.

Buddy lived a full life, but his favorite thing was just enjoying his family & working alongside his youngest son. Buddy was an avid fisherman; he knew all the best spots. Buddy was a selfless man, humble, kind, and loyal to all. He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and friend to many. If something was broken, Buddy could and would fix it. In his final years he moved to his granddaughter Terry’s home in Chuluota and lived a peaceful easy life enjoying his pets, the outdoors, and spending time with her.

He loved to watch Gunsmoke & the Andy Griffith Show. Buddy would give you the shirt off his back and his last dollar if it meant he could help in anyway. He loved Jesus & his faith was paramount and reflected into everything in his life. Buddy prayed before every meal and every night before bed, asking God to continue to bless him and his family. He loved listening to Gospel and classic country music. His favorite things to eat were Chicken and Dumplings, Okra, Butter beans, loved black coffee & Buttermilk, and his childhood favorite sweet treat Chocolate cake.

Buddy left such a positive impact on the people in his life, anyone who knew or met him would tell you he is the sweetest person they know. At 99 years young, Buddy took his last breath on Sunday August 24th, 2025, at 6:53AM in the presence of his youngest Son and Daughter-in-law in their home he helped build with his own two hands. Buddy was not sick, he was not suffering, he was simply tired and ready to go to his forever eternal home to his wife Hazel and his Lord and savior Jesus Christ. He is survived by his two sons, Larry and Terry, and his grandchildren Steve, Lisa, Terry Cathryn Lamb, & Ryan Shuler.

A Memorial service will be held for Buddy on Wednesday September 10th, 2025, at the Cape Canaveral National Military Cemetery in Mims Florida at 11AM. Buddy’s legacy and memories will live on through all the lives he touched, he will be forever loved and missed dearly.
