Obituary for Jolene Frigo
Jolene Baker Frigo, 90, left her home in Geneva, FL with her adoring and attentive daughters by her side on Sunday morning, Feb. 17, 2019 to be escorted to the gates of heaven by her Dad, who passed 22 years to the day. She was reunited that day with her faithful husband of nearly 60 years, Ernie Frigo. She was born on July 18, 1928 in Clinton, IN the daughter of William Baker and Irene Davis Baker. Jo was always ready to go! She was a talented young lady and used her talents to be a tap dancer for 10 years, a majorette at her High School, and competed as a synchronized swimmer. She enjoyed going to the movies and buying popcorn from Sam Sam the popcorn man with her cousin, Shirley, her best friend, Patty, and her sister, Phyllis. Jo always enjoyed the movies. It was one of her favorite pastimes up until the day she passed. Her favorite movie was The Sound of Music. She was crazy about all animals. Her favorite pet who she teared up over and spoke of quite often, was Furpo, her loyal German Shepherd. He walked her to and from grade school every day. Jolene always had a tug in her heart for the Lord. She walked several blocks to church every Sunday even, if she had to go alone. Jo loved Jesus. She received her bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education at Indiana State and was a member of the Delta Sigma sorority. She kept her promise to her Dad to obtain a College degree before she was married. And Jo did just that on June 18, 1950, only a few weeks after graduation. She married Ernie, the love and soul mate of her life. They began their fairy tale life together teaching at the same High Schools in Indiana for several years and enjoyed traveling around the country, until giving birth to her daughter, Nina, on November 1, 1952. They moved their family to Indianapolis on October 31, 1955 and had her second child, a baby boy, Michael, born on Mother’s Day on May 13, 1956. Lo and behold, she finally had her second daughter, her baby girl, Tracey, on Oct. 3, 1968. Jo was a very supportive, loving, and loyal wife; as well as being the most nurturing mother any child could ask for. Her family was her life. She was a homemaker and cook and baker of beautiful birthday cakes, party organizer, supported Ernie in his profession, hobbies, which included fishing, golfing, hiking, traveling, dancing the jitterbug every chance they had. In raising her children she also played the role of everything from the schoolroom mother, brownie and Girl Scout leader, tap dancing teacher, baseball team mom, chauffer, as well as being an angel on earth. She imparted her wisdom, strong sense of God, family, and country to her children. She set high standards for us to live up to and we are all proud to say that her family have always respected her values, principles and family traditions of a strong family unit, all putting our family first. Carrying on her legacy of morality and ethics, kindness, generosity, faith, and honesty are all characteristics imparted by her to her children. We all cherished her and have comfort in knowing that she is one of God’s angels and that we will see her again in Glory. Jo belonged to North minster Presbyterian Church in Indianapolis and attended several Non Denominational churches in Florida. In recent years she has read the Bible and prayed at home. She gave to charities monthly including to: various War Veterans, Animal Rights, Make a Wish Foundation, and Pro Life Movements. Ernie Frigo, her beloved husband and William and Irene Davis Baker, her parents all preceded her in death. Jolene is survived by her sister, Phyllis and Brother-in-law, Wakefield Gerrish of Knoxville, TN and her nephews: Wakefield and William Gerrish and their families of Knoxville, TN.
