Albert “Al” Barnes, Jr., age 78, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, went to meet our Lord on Thursday, September 18, 2025.
Born in 1946 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to Evelyn Barnes and Albert Barnes Sr., Al was one of four children. He met the love of his life, Janet, in 1971, and from that moment on they shared an inseparable bond. Together, they built 52 years of marriage filled with devotion, laughter, and countless cherished memories.
Al dedicated his career to providing for his family, working tirelessly as a salesman. He was proud to give his children every opportunity and delighted in sharing time and meals with his children and grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy, and his presence will be deeply missed in the lives of all who knew and loved him.
Outside of work and family, Al found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He enjoyed traveling with his beautiful wife, boating, relaxing at the beach, and spending time on the golf course. Another favorite pastime was watching the Phillies and Eagles play ball. His passion for the Eagles was so well known that his nurses even decorated his hospital room wall with “Go Birds!”
Al leaves behind a legacy of love that will continue to live on through his wife, Janet Barnes, with their children, Dawn Raines (Brandon) and Kimberly Mangum (Michael), their grandchildren Marissa Mangum, Ashleigh Boys (Alex), Hailey Mangum, Alexis Mangum, Justin Mangum, Nathan Mangum, and Alyssa Markham (Schad), and their Great-grandchildren, Knox Markham, Briggs Bates, Hallie Markham and due next month, baby Sofia Bates.
He will be remembered not only for his devotion to his family but also for his sharp wit and warm laugh. Though his absence leaves an ache in our hearts, we are grateful for the memories that we will hold closely until we meet again.
